Welcome to AVID

AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college preparatory program for students that are often the first in their family to attend college.  The AVID program provides ongoing support for students by developing strong study skills, work ethic, note taking, time management, and college planning.  AVID students will challenge themselves by taking higher level courses and being involved in school and community activities.

Students apply to be in the AVID program and are interviewed prior to entering the program. At Miller we accept new applicants throughout the year.  AVID has an ongoing waiting list that we use to fill openings in the class at the end of each quarter. Once a student applies for AVID they remain on the waiting list.

If you or your child is interested in learning more about AVID, please contact or see either of our AVID teachers or our site coordinator.  Mrs. Sarah Rocquin is the 8th grade AVID elective teacher (srocquin@asd5.org) and Ms. Rachael Jacobus (rjacobus@asd5.org)  is the 7th grade AVID elective teacher.  Mrs. Angela Durr (andurr@asd5.org) is the building coordinator of the program.
