EXTRA! EXTRA!
McDermoth School Begins Major Remodel!

On February 4, 1997, the voters of Aberdeen passed a $7.9 million bond issue to remodel McDermoth Elementary School.

Students and staff celebrated on February 5 with a school-wide assembly and ice cream for everyone!

Signs appeared in school windows to show our appreciation to the community. Thank you ABERDEEN!!!!

The work on the remodel began immediately. During the 1997-1998 school year, McDermoth staff and students will find home at other sites as the inside of our historic school is removed and replaced.

McDermoth staff formed committees--one to discuss and plan the remodel and another to organize our move.

The committees and our principal wasted no time. Before the month was up, a 22 yard dumpster appeared. We have already begun the "weeding out" process.

Movers brought boxes and stacked them in the halls--soon to be filled with the contents of our school. This will probably not be enough boxes.

On February 27, soils testing crews arrived on the playground to drill for samples. Students found that watching them work was immensely interesting.
