More Remodeling News

These pages were created by a team of five students in grades 3-5--Kelly M., Katie H., Sara P., William P. and Dane H. They will be adding more pages as the remodel of McDermoth School continues in September 1997. Please come visit again.

One of the things that will be new in McDermoth will be the heating system. Some of the heaters are not safe. Kids have gotten burned by them. There is a heater that bubbles up hot water. Most of the time, they are too hot or too cold.

Our gym is very small. It's floors are very slippery. The lighting is very dim and sometimes the light from the sun makes it hard to see. The stage is very small and most of the lights are broken.

It's going to be twice the size it is now. We will have a wooden floor and the ceiling will not leak any more.

The cafeteria is very small. The kitchen is very small and it is out-of-date. Kids get cramped when they eat lunch.

The new cafeteria will have a lot more windows and it won't leak. We are going to get new tables and a new kitchen. The cooks are excited about that.

Our playground is like a parking lot. One quarter of the playground fills with water every time it rains. We call it Lake McDermoth. There are pot holes on the playground. On our new playground we will have some grass and trees on the playground. We will be getting some new equipment.

Our bathrooms are a real problem. First off, there are only seven toilets for 450 students. To get to the bathrooms the upper grades have to walk down four flights of stairs. In the new McDermoth there will be bathrooms on every floor.
