Unit I

Your child will know and apply the core concepts and principles of science, the scientific method and measurement.

This unit is designed to examine the process of science. Students will learn the zones of science and out how much we actually know.

Unit II

This unit will examine matter and its phases, students will learn the classes of matter, the atomic model of matter and how atoms are classified.

Core Knowledge and Skills:

• Property of matter.
• Physical and chemical changes.
• Mixtures, elements, and compounds.
• Atom: Building blocks.
• Classification of elements. 

Unit III

This unit is designed to examine planet Earth. Students will learn the development and composition of our atmosphere, the oceans and how they are mapped, how streams are formed above and below the ground, the earth’s land masses and how they are mapped, and what makes up the earth’s interior.

• Earth’s atmosphere.
• Earth’s ocean.
• Earth’s fresh water.
• Earth’s land mass.
• Earth’s interior. 

Unit IV

This unit will examine our solar system, earth, and its moon and stars. Students will learn what makes up our solar system and the characteristics of those objects, and the relationship between the earth and moon.

• The Solar System.
• Stars and galaxies.
• Earth and its moon.
• Model rockets.
