Student / Family Support Assistant Harbor High School 2 positions - Current year only
5 hours per day Current year only - 92 days - February 4 through June 20, 2008
RATE OF PAY $11.00 - $13.33 per hour
Primary Responsibilities/Duties: 1. Assist parents in using available community resources for social, educational and health needs. 2. Collaborate with staff and parents to develop and implement activities for student engagement in school. 3. Participate in planning meetings with program staff to coordinate services and instruction. Attend staff meetings and training as scheduled. 4. Assist in organizing and facilitating student/family conferences. Act as an advocate during conferences/meetings. 5. Assist teacher in the daily management, organization, monitoring and safety of students. 6. Supervise and conduct individuals and small groups in educational, creative and structured activities; assist with class work and assignments; tutor and monitor student activities in the classroom and special sessions. 7. Communicate with teacher concerning individual student needs and progress. 8. Monitor student behavior and progress, and share observations with teacher and other professional staff. Assist teachers in preparation of student work contracts and program. Administer discipline as authorized. 9. Act as a role model to demonstrate appropriate behavior to students. 10. May operate a computer using educational software to provide student instruction and assistance. 11. Maintain confidentiality of student information and records. 12. May enter data into computer and maintain various databases, such as School Master and attendance. 13. May transport students to appointments. 14. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. AA degree, 72 college credits or pass a skills test required. 3. Post high school training in behavior management and related training desired.
Certificates/Licenses: 1. FBI and Washington State Patrol background clearance required. 2. Valid Washington State driver's license and good driving record required. 3. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Type II driver's license. 4. CPR/First Aid may be required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 1. Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and English usage. 2. General knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment, and ability to operate standard office equipment such as a copier or word processor. Key boarding skills at 45 wpm. 3. Ability to learn and willingness to use computer equipment and various software programs. Data entry skills required. 4. Training/experience in social work, education or counseling desired. 5. Desired effective characteristics include: flexibility, enthusiasm, and willingness to develop relationships and willingness to learn new skills. 6. Experience working with families with low socio-economic status. 7. General knowledge of data collection. Ability to maintain accurate records. 8. Ability to handle students with behavioral and emotional difficulties. 9. Ability to maintain confidentiality. 10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the general public 11. Ability to work in a team environment. 12. Ability to work effectively under pressure and be flexible to meet deadlines. 13. Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions, policies and procedures. Ability to follow instructions. 14. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write simple correspondence. 15. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate ratios and percentages and interpret graphs.
