• Welcome to the Junior High section of Harbor Junior Senior High School!

2021-2022 School Year was the FIRST year that Junior High was included in our district's alternative school, Harbor Learning Center. This includes Grades 7 and 8.

Our mission is to provide a smaller, more personalized/individualized learning environment for some of our district's 7th and 8th graders.

Our district's junior high, Miller Junior High, is an amazing, vibrant school!  However, its large size (750-800 students) can be an active and energetic place that might not be the optimum learning environment for some of our district's youth.

Families choosing Harbor Junior High for their 7th and 8th Graders can still access Miller Junior High for sports and activities.

During our first year (2021-2022), we found the structure of the same students together all day is a good fit for students seeking a quiet, peaceful environment.  Since these students are with the same students all day long, it works best with students willing to work together to resolve any potential issues or conflicts.

2023-2024 will be our third year having Junior High students here at the Harbor Learning Center.  Each year, we continue to make changes as we learn what supports our students in this small school setting.

What the Junior High model looks like for 2023-2024:

    - Seventh and Eighth graders are together for most of their classes

    - Seventh and Eighth graders will travel to the teachers’ classrooms for each class

    -  Several different teachers will teach the junior high subjects

    • One teacher for Math and Science

    • One teacher for PE

    • One teacher for Social Studies

    • One teacher for English

    • 7th Graders take Digitools for an elective (With high school students)

    • 8th Graders take Health (with high school students)

    • Special Services Resource room is available for some students if needed

-8th graders can begin earning high school credit in Health and Social Studies

    - Students have the same lunch as our high school students and the same passing time in the hallways with high school students
