• Freshman Year Checklist
    •        Organize yourself. Set aside an area of your home for homework. Scout out the public library for a space if you are too distracted at home. You need a space dedicated solely for school work. You will cut the time it takes to finish schoolwork significantly if you remove distractions. Use your school planners to record assignments and tests so you can stay on top of things!!
    •        Goal plan. Focus your goals on academics. Your overall GPA is used by colleges and businesses as a basis to judge you by. Remember your GPA starts your freshman year!!
    •        Get involved!! Check out and join one or more of the many clubs or organizations or sport teams we offer at AHS. School isn’t just about learning and grades…there is a vast social network out there…be a part of it!
    •        Complete your Freshman Portfolio activities in a timely manner. Don’t put them off…a little bit at a time is all that is needed to get done!
    •        Seek help from your teachers, or after school tutors if you feel overwhelmed. Don’t wait until the situation has become bad before you seek help.
    •        DRAMA…it is the enemy of being successful at anything. Don’t let others suck you into their drama…if a friend is having a rough time, walk them to the counseling center or to the office…let us help them out. If you are having the hard time…then you do the same. Don’t suck your friends in and make a tough situation worse!!
    •        It is never too early to start thinking about the rest of your life. Start looking at career and college options. Start looking at what classes you may want or need to take the next three years at high school.
    •        If you stumble, and fail classes, just understand that you will need to work a little harder over the next three years. It is not an ending to your academic career if you are willing to do the things that need to be done.
    •        Talk to us…the staff. No matter what your question or concern, we probably can help you, or at least find someone who can. You are not a weak person for asking for help…just a smart one!
    •        Wear your Blue and Gold with pride!! Bobcats have been graduating and excelling for over 120 years. You are the newest additions to that long line of tradition.
