Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Wilder

I am excited to starting my 28th year as a teacher!
Let me tell you a bit about myself and my training.
After growing up in the desert in Southern California, I did my teacher training at Whitworth University in Spokane, WA. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher and Whitworth was a great place for me. After graduation, I was excited to move across the state to Aberdeen to finally teach in my own classroom! I taught 2nd grade and 5th grade at Stevens Elementary for two years. During those years at Stevens, I earned a Master's Degree from City University. I was transferred to the Resource Room at McDermoth and taught K-6 Special Education for 7 years. When the district adopted year-round Kindergarten, I moved from Special Education to Kindergarten at McDermoth. I taught Kindergarten for 6 years before moving up to the 3rd grade. I taught 3rd grade for 3 years, and moved to 2nd grade 8 years ago, or so...I many have lost track!
I have 2 children. My son Matthew is a former McDermoth Bulldog who is now married and has a daughter of his own! Audrey is my granddaughter. She will turn 1 this year, so I'm a new grandma and love my new role! My daughter, Brianne is also a former McDermoth Bulldog and just graduated from Aberdeen High School. The picure is of me with my son, daughter-in-law, Ella and little Audrey.
I love to travel, read, listen to music, cook, play the violin, and spend time outdoors. I particularly love to camp, bicycle and canoe. I am so grateful to live in the Pacific Northwest where we benefit from temporate weather and beautiful scenery. I enjoy clamdigging, crabbing, and other shellfish gathering, and I have learned to home-can tuna and make blackberry jam and syrup from blackberries we pick locally. As a former desert girl, I think this is very cool!
