2nd grade students are expected to fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, they need to know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
Students should practice DAILY to develop fluency. Flashcards, oral drills, computer games, and written practice drills are great ways to get prepared for our weekly drills! Fluency is essential so students can free up their brain power to do higher level math problems! Here is a great site to checkout to help your student learn their addition and subtraction facts complete with flashcards you can download and print.
Students can also spend about 5 minutes daily to practice their math facts through timed practice at Xtramath.org
They will need their unique PIN. Please email me at email@example.com if you are having trouble logging into www.xtramath.org
