Land Acknowledgement
Land Acknowledgment Proposal for Aberdeen School District
Revised as of 03/26/2023
Aberdeen School District honors the ancestors and pays respect to the elders, past and present, of all Salish Peoples of this land, who have occupied these lands since time immemorial. We would like to express our deepest respect and gratitude towards these original and current caretakers of the region, and to our Native students, staff and faculty, past and present, as well as support and respect their presence and valuable contributions into the future. Aberdeen School District is exclusively located on the ancestral Homeland of the Quinault & Chehalis, but to honor the families and registered students within our district, we give respect and will honor all local tribal lands. We acknowledge all our regional tribes as the Salish First Nations people for their care and use of our local rivers & bays, to mark the lands where our School District is located. We would like to acknowledge our responsibility to establish and maintain relationships with our closest Native Tribe, the Quinault Indian Nation, and all the Pacific Northwest Nations and Native peoples, in support of their sovereignty and the inclusion of their voices in the teaching and learning process.
