I instruct most all of the Career and Technical Education Applied Biology at AHS. These classes include: Natural Resources and Horticulture. In our Natural Resources course students will gain invaluable hands-on experiences in Watershed Ecology, Wildlife Ecology, Aquaculture and Forest Ecology. In our Horticulture courses students will be exposed to Greenhouse Operations and Management, and Nursery Landscape Design. These courses emphasize careers and are all hands-on supported by labs and investigations and usually project based learning. All classes meet graduation requirements for either a Lab science or Occupational credit.
In addition, I advise our FFA chapter at AHS. FFA is a highly recognized national student led organization that develops a student's potential for growth, career success and leadership. Locally, we use FFA as a springboard for students to learn more about careers, compete in career related competitions, expand their leadership skills, travel, networking, earn community service hours and much more! Please email me or stop by room 306 for more information about joining this great organization.
I graduated from Washington State University in 1986 with a BS in Forest Management. I worked my way through college as a wildland firefighter. After graduation I spent 4 years in the forest products industry conducting forestry field work. I began my teaching career in the Aberdeen School District in 1990 and just finished my 32nd year of teaching a job that I am passionate about and am truly thankful.
I reside in Central Park on a little 10 acre slice of heaven with my amazing family--my beautiful wife Lucy and our three children--Erikk (his wife Kathy also an AHS alum), Eleanore (a senior at WSU, Washington Army National Guard) and Madelynn (sophomore at Grays Harbor College) along with our herd of Charolais beef cows, flock of sheep, a coup full of chickens, a few cats.
