Is Miller Fun?
As a student of Miller Junior High, have you ever wondered why we don't have school pride assemblies or school-wide rewards for students with a certain GPA? Well, I do too, and I'm here to get to the bottom of it. For example, on the MJH Calendar, there is the “Spirit Week” where you just dress up in the clothing of that day. But I believe that if there is a spirit week, you must have some type of school spirit games/assemblies. For some reason, Miller has yet to include these events in their “spirit week” so why even consider it a spirit week and not just a “Dress Up Week”
On the MJH calendar, through the months of September November, there is only 1 assembly. I made a call today to Montesano Jr-Sr High School and compared their assemblies to ours, and to kick off the school year, they have had a total 6 assemblies already compared to Miller Junior High’s 1 assembly. This makes me wonder about the Miller staff’s devotion to student’s positivity about wanting to go to school, and making it a fun place, I know I want to have fun in school, but the only times I do are in Journalism and PE. Miller needs to focus on at least one of the many things we could do to “Make Miller Great Again”
I asked students in class if they thought that Miller was fun and a good place to learn and these were some of the responses
“Sometimes, depends on teacher” -Lauren Touch
“No, it sucks crap” -Olivia Niemi
“Not really, kids get bullied” -Jacob Johnson
“No, school is boring. The teachers don't do enough to make the kids enthusiastic about school” -Anthony Theriault
As you can see here, many students don't think school is fun, Miller admins NEED to do something to get more assemblies or events that will be fun but also engage students in learning experiences. I recently looked at the teacher’s assembly calendar, and there was supposed to be an assembly October 6th that never even happened! What is up with that!? Miller Junior High staff needs to be more responsible to get stuff like that set up for students. It is important for us to have fun at school but be able to learn.
