Principal’s Message
Hard to believe Winter Break is almost here. Our school continues to grow as we add students to our in person, on line, and GED programs. We love that the Harbor Learning Center offers alternative learning opportunities to many of our Aberdeen families. Some of our students even “choice in” from other districts across the area and the state for our programs. We appreciate all of our family support for our staff and students. We are focusing on attendance this year as our county transitions back to Truancy Petitions now that much of the COVID impact to attendance has waned. Please remember to call or email us if your student is going to be absent from school. We are fortunate to be working with an Attendance and ReEngagement Specialist this year provided by our local ESD (Educational Service District.) We believe we can help our students best when they are here with us at school.

Graduation Requirements! Graduation Pathways! Personalized Pathway! It can all be so confusing!
Students and parents should be informed about graduation and what has to be completed in order to graduate from the Aberdeen School District. Even if your student is a freshman, it all starts the first year of high school. I was able to meet with some of you during Student Led Conferences, unfortunately, I was unable to meet with everyone. If you have questions about Aberdeen School District graduation requirements, please feel free to contact me. Seniors should be filling out and signing their graduation plans. Credit requirement information can be viewed on Skyward. If you need your Skyward information, please contact the main office, Emma in the computer lab or myself.
FAFSA OPENED OCTOBER 1st! Create an account at studentaid.gov to see if you qualify for money for college!! Need help? Come ask me!
Does your student need someone to listen and assist with problem solving? I can do that, too. I also assist families in accessing the BHR counseling services offered on campus. - Kasi Turner, HLC Counselor, kturner@asd5.org

Technology message- Emma Wimberley
Over the next few months, our Harbor High students will be switching from Lenovo Chromebooks to Dell Laptops. These Dell Laptops have a few less restrictions, and students are able to use Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. This process will be slow, but do not be surprised if your student comes home with a different device than normal!
Open Doors/GED Program
We are in year two of our Open Doors/GED program, and it is very successful! Last year 30 students earned their GED. This year 5 students have already earned their GED’s! We have 50 students currently enrolled in the GED program and room for more! If your student is 16 years of age and behind in credits, they might be eligible to enroll in our GED program. Many of our local youth fell behind in earning high school credits during COVID and are anxious to find a way to complete their education and move on to community college, a job, or technical schools. GED might be the right fit for you or someone you know. The flexible in person time commitment of students working towards their GED allows our GED students to work during the day. Tedd White, our GED Family Service Worker, works well with our GED students and is available to answer any questions you might have! If interested please contact Tedd White at twhite@asd5.org.
Grays Harbor Academy Information
Our school hosts our district’s online school, Grays Harbor Academy. We have over seventy K-12 students enrolled in this online option. It is important to talk to our principal or school counselor before considering this change. We contract with an online school, Edgenuity. This online option is very different from the distance learning offered in the 2020-2021 school year or during our temporary switch to distance learning in January of 2022. It is a 100% ONLINE school with ONLINE teachers and the expectations are VERY HIGH! It works well with students who are self motivated, self starters, and love working on a computer for over 5 hours a day.
Weekends and Winter break is a great time for GHA students to get caught up on work or get ahead in their classes. Please make sure to let us know if you are not receiving your child’s weekly progress. Their progress is emailed every week and mailed home at the end of the month. First semester ends 1/25/22 for GHA students. Students can ask for make up assignments, retake quizzes/tests, or book a meeting with their Edgenuity teachers. Please reach out to our GHA support team if you have any questions about your child’s education. We appreciate your cooperation.
